Az arpensis régi római területmérték. Villányban, a Szársomlyó lábánál fellelt, mozaikokkal gazdagon díszített római villa oltárkövének feliratán találkozunk a régi római területmérték, az arpensis nevével. E szerint a birtok ura, Venatus, fia segítségével 400 arpensis – mintegy 45 hektárnyi – szőlőt telepített itt 2000 évvel ezelőtt.
