In the Cellar
This is a barrel-fermented white blend of Chenin Blanc (42%), Roussanne (30%), Verdelho (17%) and Viognier (11%). This is a single-vineyard wine from the first vineyard you see when you drive on to our Oude Nektar farm. It is a tricky block, with a mix of soils and we tried to turn that into a positive by planting it as a blend. The grapes are all picked at the same time and pressed and fermented together as a true “field blend” 100% barrel fermented in mostly older, neutral oak. An elegant blend combining the richness of Roussanne and Viognier with the bright fruits and natural acidity of Chenin and Verdelho.
About the winery: Stark-Condé
Kansas City-born graphic designer José Conde turned his hand to wine more than two decades ago, and continues to produce some of SA’s most classic cabernets from this scenically spectacular property in Stellenbosch's Jonkershoek, in the family since father-in-law Hans-Peter Schröder settled here in the late 1980s.
