In the Cellar
An overwhelmingly flawless, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. It tastes closer to Old World Cabernets with their raspberry and currant profiles, although based on its high alcohol and extract content, you might think of it as a brother of the great Cabernets found in the Naples Valley. It is precisely this duality that makes it unique and exciting. It was pronounced batches of dark chocolate and black pepper with mocha effects. Matured primarily in small barrels made of American and secondarily Hungarian oak, its mature tannins provide a long, enjoyable finish. It’s an excellent accompaniment to serious beef steaks, but it’s also worth tasting with dark chocolate desserts.
About the winery: Jammertal
‘Achieving the right quality for us is extremely necessary for manual viticultural work. It is essential to closely monitor the precise performance of the required tasks. These, together with the strong yield limitation, are the cornerstones of our world-class viticulture/oenology. Our day-to-day relationship with the vines — along with the winery’s similarly scrupulous, detailed daily work — shows the true craftsmanship in winemaking.’
The Villány Region
The Villány Wine Region was built on the strong foundation of respect for traditions. The treasures of the region include the protected avenues of cellars in Palkonya, Villánykövesd, Villány, Nagyharsány and Kisharsány, the cellars and press houses scattered around in the vineyards of Siklós. Hundreds of years ago they were esteemed for their level technology, now they are important destinations for the tourist industry. Traditionally Kadarka, Portugieser and Schiller wines were produced. The Villány Wine Region despite honouring traditions, is able to continuously move forward and offers an almost perfect and full range of wines. In several modern cellars the most up-to-date technologies are applied. This wine region is considered excellent from two aspects. On the one hand the terroir allows for contiguous plantation blocks; the wine region is a single unit with a high aesthetic value. On the other hand, the variety of the vineyards, the hillsides of the east-west running hill ridge allows for a wide variety grapes to be grown. The Villány wine region is the southernmost lying wine-producing region in Hungary, where spring comes early and grapes in the vineyards ripen in more sunshine. The autumn frequently experiences an Indian Summer or as locals say, an “Old Ladies’ Summer”. Due to its location and orography, the Villány Hills comprise an area excellent for wine production. The southern slopes of this East-West range have a special micro-climate. The area is situated in the warm, moderately humid climate zone. The main soil components of the Villány Wine Region are dolomite, marl and Cretaceous limestone, loess cover with clay, in some places with sand content.
